Wonder Girls – Nobody Japanese PV
12 JulThe fabulous Wonder Girls have released a fresh new PV for the Japanese debut EP Nobody for Everybody. The talented K-pop idol group are also making waves due to their new international, English song Like Money! Wonder Girls are back with a brand new PV for the Japanese version of Nobody (one of my favourite songs – there’s a dodgy video of me performing the dance/singing along out there on Facebook somewhere…).
I love their new colour scheme and concept – the girls look so fresh! Ikiyou!

Namie Amuro & After School – Make It Happen Song & MV Teaser
17 FebJapan’s undisputed Queen of Hip Pop recently announced that she will be releasing a special collaboration album (which is cutely getting called Amuro’s Collabo by fans). Amongst the news that she will be dueting with lots of famous J-pop stars was that After School will be making their official, Japanese debut on a track with Amuro!
Amazing right?! Namie is one of my favourite J-pop artists (definitely top 5), and whilst After School aren’t my favourite band, I do like their music and style so I’m super stoked for them! Check here for a brief teaser for the MV and you can hear a short clip of the song:
Everyone looks amazing right? Especially Namie and Kahi. The song sounds really good too so be sure to check back for the full audio!
For me, this represents a landmark development in the Korean, Hallyu wave. Of course you had/have artists like BoA and DBSK and in the past few months we have seen the surge in popularity of KARA and SNSD (Shoju Jidai), but to my knowledge, this is the first time a Korean idol girlgroup has dueted with such a huge star in Japan. It will be interesting to know why Namie selected After School – I think they have similar, punchy and fierce attitudes and stage presence.
With KARA’s future looking stressed, and SNSD following a cuter image, After School definitely has a chance to launch in Japan with a strong, powerful debut.
Goodbye Happiness PV – Utada Hikaru
8 NovHikkichan has released the music video for Goodbye Happiness! :O It’s… rather different from her other videos but totally made with love for her fans! There’s references to other music videos in there – can you spot them? It’s actually quite hilarious. I wondered what it would be like… When I listen to the song, I often think it is a bit sad, but the music video is completely different and is actually very upbeat and happy. It’s really cute to see Hikki dancing and smiling. I think this hiatus has lifted a lot of pressure from herself and I also think she enjoyed the US/UK tour as it was a lot different to the shows she gets to play in Japan. Furthermore, she has recently signed a new contract with EMI to release her music internationally and is no longer signed to Island. This will probably seem like a big break for her. I wish her all the happiness during her break but can’t wait for when she comes back!
Goodbye Happiness Lyrics – Utada Hikaru (宇多田 ヒカル)
2 NovCredit goes to here. Beautiful lyrics right?
After the sweet candy has disappeared
A sad looking little boy
On a cloudless Summer Day
Sunburnt hands and feet
Careless if her white one piece gets dirty
An unconscious paradise
I waited after the dream, but nothing
Then one day, I learned of your name
So Goodbye Loneliness
Singing along to a love song
Reflected in your eyes, I’m laughing
So Goodbye Happiness
We can’t return to those times
When we were naive and energetic
But that’s okay
Love me
You can’t overthink it or get too desperate
Don’t fool yourself
It’s a tough world
When humans find themselves all alone
Is when they realize the meaning of love
These fading passing days
Let me hear a gentle song
Do you still remember, to this day
The way we felt around the time we met
So Goodbye Innocence
We can’t return to those times
When we were naive and energetic
It’s all your fault
Kiss me
Oh everything goes round and around
Oh Darling Darling I’m not going to move on to someone else
Only you
Wouldn’t it be great if we could just live the way we are?
At crucial moments, my other self blocks my way.
So Goodbye Happiness
I want to return to those times
When we were naive and energetic
Baby, just one more time
Kiss me
Utada Hikaru – Goodbye Happiness
2 NovUtada Hikaru is back! I know I’m a bit late with the updates and all (she’s taking a sabatical and releasing a best of album complete with some new songs). Her latest promo single is Goodbye Happiness and I think it is awesome. I loved it from the first time I heard the preview and can’t wait to have the album!
SNSD – Gee Japanese MV Teaser
1 OctEveryone’s favourite K-pop girl group have recently launched in Japan to much acclaim and attention. They’re releasing their next single, a Japanese version of Gee, soon! Check out the MV teaser below! I <3 SNSD and hope the Japanese fans will love this song too!
alan – 風に向かう花 (Kaze ni Mukau Hana ~ Flower in the Wind) PV
21 JunI have a lot of respect for alan. She seems like a really smart, intelligent artist – much moreso than a lot of singers at the moment (Asian or otherwise). I’m always really impressed when a singer is multilingual. In this respect, alan reminds me a lot of Sa Ding Ding (heralded as the Chinese Bjork). She’s Tibetan, but can sing in numerous languages and has a soaring, beautiful voice (her technique reflective of traditional Tibetan singing). It’s inspiring to think of alan and Sa Ding Ding growing up in Tibet, all the culture, tradition and the scenery.
I’m not a die-hard alan fan, I think her songs can be often very dramatic and deep and not necessarily the best thing to listen to on the journey into work. I really liked the songs she did for Red cliff (both the Chinese and Japanese songs) and see this is a bit of return to form for her. Let’s hope she’s successful for this release – it’s also very encouraging to see a Chinese star do well in Japan.
