Jay Chou – Superman Can’t Fly Song with Chinese Lyrics

Hi all! Lately I’ve been on a J-pop splurge: I re-downloaded Namiesan’s stuff to my iPod (for a while I listened to her more than anyone else – I really like her stuff, although I’m not as fond as her most recent album) and listened to Angela Aki and YUI for the first time in a long time. This got me to post more about J-pop the last couple of days (this and the fact that a lot of Korean music shows are currently on hiatus).

So, why not also pay attention to some C-pop? I don’t listen to C-pop nearly as much as J-pop or K-pop. In fact I really only listen to 5 artists: Jolin Tsai, CoCo Lee, Stefanie Sun, Faye Wong and Fiona Sit. Everyone else is just a couple of songs here and there. I think it’s because C-pop is huge and I wouldn’t know where to start. However, one singer who I do like (but am in no way obsessed with) is Jay Chou. Jay Chou, for those that don’t know (as if no one knows who he is!), is the number 1 mega star in China. He sings, he writes and produces his music – he even produces and writes for other artists. He’s also turned his hand to acting (which can be seen in Curse of the Golden Flower).

He’s been on a somewhat long hiatus for an Asian singer. Jay is returning after a 2-year break inbetween albums. His new song is called ‘Chou Ren Bu Hai Fei’ which translates as Superman Can’t Fly. The lyrics remind me of a Sylvia Plath song but hehe. I’ll work on translating these into English tomorrow or today :)

2PM – Without U Live on M! Countdown

2PM are back on stage! I have to say, I don’t like this song as much as Heartbeat but I do like a bit of 2PM. I’m not sure on the dancing… but then again I thought the dancing for Heartbeat was really weird but then it grew to be infectious and I’d watch all their live performances; I’m hoping the Without U performances grow on me. I really like the song though, it’s pretty catchy. I hope they get to number 1 too!

Lee Hyori – Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Live @ M! Countdown

Lee Hyori continues promotions of her huge comeback with a performance on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I’m really impressed with how she’s done, she’s back on stage performing with loads of energy and winning M! Countdown! That’s right ^_^ Lee Hyori is number 1! Congratulations to her, she’s obviously worked really hard on her comeback and it’s been a long time coming. It’s pretty amazing to see that she still has what it takes to keep up with the younger idols.

Angela Aki (アンジェラ・アキ) – Kagayaku Hito (輝く人) PV

Angela Aki is back with a new single! Kagayaku Hito sees a big jump for the J-pop star as she ditches her trademark piano for an acoustic guitar! I’m not entirely sure if it works better or worse – it’s just different. It sounds quite summery, peaceful and melodic – a typical Angela Akisan song.

Angela Aki used to be one of my favourite J-pop singers but I don’t listen to J-pop as much but I always have time for my favourites. It’s good to see that she’s still around; she normally goes missing for months on end and then pops back with a single and an album. Hehe, I just realised that Angela Aki is using a guitar and now YUI is using a piano – perhaps they swapped their instruments with each other?

2PM – Without U MV

Ooo! My favourite boy band (eh, is it okay to have a favourite boy band…?) are back with another great song and music video! the song is pretty cool, reminds me of a lot of early 00’s r and b, but it’s cool. The dancing on the other hand? Oh my! Hehe, JYP makes me laugh with his chereography. I’m sure it’ll grow on me :)

I used to love YUI about 4 years ago. I had all her music, but then by her third album I had become obsessed with K-pop. I actually don’t listen to that much J-pop anymore, ain’t it strange how times change? The audio is pretty bad but the song sounds quite nice. It’s got a piano instead of her trademark acoustic guitar – she’s becoming Angela Aki! I quite like it, it’s breezy like a summer son~
