The British pop music scene has had somewhat of a renaissance these past couple of years, and it’s the girls that have been leading the way. Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, Kate Nash and so on and so on have really put British pop music on the global stage. This continued somewhat this past year with La Roux, Little Boots and Florence and the Machine. A newbie who might be set to become the next big thing is a girl called Ellie Goulding. I think she sounds like… a more folky version of La Roux. She’s just released her promo single video and… I quite like it! Granted, I love me some electropop melody shiz, but I actually quite like this. She has a funny voice though, a bit like a chipmunk in a goldfish bowl. Or maybe that’s the vocoder…
Rihanna – Russian Roulette
23 OctSo, it’s not Asian pop for once, but well… I don’t just listen to Asian pop music, so you know… gotta switch it up sometimes. Rihanna is finally back, after what seems like a lifetime, and has a new song called Russian Roulette. I have to say… I’m quite pleasantly surprised by it. Rihanna is a funny one for me, sometimes I like her, sometimes she gets on my nerves. Good Girl Gone Bad version 1 is what I like her for most.
The song shows Rihanna give a pretty impressive vocal performance. As of late, I think she’s been content to be the diva that is effortlessly cool, but maybe here she’s finally remembered she’s a singer. The song is pretty interesting too. I think, as songs go, this is one of the better songs about domestic violence. But I think my favourite is still Tina Turner’s What’s Love Got To Do With It?.
BoA – White Wishes
20 OctThe image song for the new Tales of game is BoA’s White Wishes! I quite like it… it reminds me of BoA circa Best of Seoul. I like how BoA can be modern without losing her ‘sound’. She also sounds very pretty on the track. The video’s not been released yet but it remains to be seen whether there will be a video or not. I guess Namco are following on from Squenix’s take on image song (having also employed BONNIE PINK for a previous release).
T-ara & Supernova – TTL Listen 2 @ Music Core
20 OctT-aranova continue their promotion with a performance of TTL Listen 2 on Music Core. You know I <3 T-ara, I don't know why… I just seem to really really like them. I think I like them more than SNSD… TTL is now number 3 on my most played songs according to my ipod. It is surely only a matter of time before it is number 1 (current number 1 is SNSD's Gee).
Check out their performance of TTL Listen 2 below~
T-ara & Supernova – TTL Listen 2 @ Dream Concert
12 OctAt arguably 2009’s biggest K-pop concert extravaganza, the opening act slot was givne to T-ara and Supernova! I’m going to refer to them as T-aranova from now. Maybe it’ll catch on, maybe it’s not even original, oh wells! Anyway, this was the live debut of TTL Listen 2 and they gave a pretty awesome performance! I hate to say it, but I think T-aranova gave one of the best, high-octane performances of the evening, complete with fireworks! Fireworks in rhythm! So much awesomeness! Can’t believe this is the same T-ara that debuted live with the rather rocky Lies. <3 them.
T-ara & Supernova – TTL @ M CountDown
12 OctT-aranova performed live at M CountDown and gave another awesome performance! This time perhaps even more tight! They just seem to be getting better and better!!! Can’t wait til they release their album!
Girls’ Generation – Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) @ Dream Concert
12 OctWell well well, the current queens of K-pop gave an awesome performance of Tell Me Your Wish at Dream Concert. Gotta say, this is probably the best performance of the night (although not my favourite, yay T-ara!). I don’t really know what else to say other than they are super polished and don’t do anything wrong. And, they have fireworks. <3!
4MINUTE – MUZIK (remix) @ Dream Concert
12 Oct4MINUTE aren’t my favourite group by far actually. I’ve never really listened to them much before. However, MUZIK is pretty catchy and I’ve found myself humming the chorus quite often recently. Like many other artists, they debuted a remix version of their hit song at Dream Concert that was met with huge cheers by the crowd. The song is definitely a big tune! I’m starting to love it! Haha! And I guess you can really tell the differences between a rookie group, and a not so rookie group (4MINUTE vs. f(x)) with their stage presence.
Chae Yeon – Shake (Fractal Remix) @ Dream Concert
12 OctSo, before she finishing all of her Shake promotions, Chae Yeon is releasing a remix of her hit single Shake. To start off, she performed it live at Dream Concert 2009! It’s okay… a couple of years ago I’d glomp for this kind of stuff but my music taste has changed a little and I don’t like the hard thumping beats of techno music so much. However, I think it’s great to see Chae Yeon on such a big stage still working it and looking great – especially as she’s getting on a bit in the K-pop world. Also loving the fact that she seems to have grown up a little and seems comfortable with herself. Love Chae Yeon <3 And! More fireworks! I gotta get me to a K-pop concert if they all have fireworks!
f(x) – LA chA TA @ Dream Concert
12 Octf(x) also performed at the Dream Concert, with LA chA TA. I’m not really sure where they’ve gone, they seemed to have a huge debut but their promotion has slowed up a little. They give a pretty cool performance, but I wasn’t blown away with it. I guess it’s a bit hard for 5 rookies to command such a huge stage. Everyone seems to love Amber though! Good for her :)
